Position Summary

The Production Administrator will be responsible for a variety of administrative, operational and supervisory functions to ensure the effective function and operation of the production department by making sure that prescribed schedules, policies and procedures are followed.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

Manage Seed Program: manage seed technician(s), space management, patching, seed purchasing, seed treatments, seed trials, seed objectives for expansion, seed collection
Generate bids, create seed POs and purchase all seed used in production; maintain proper inventory levels of materials and supplies used day to day for seed program; coordinates and manages new seed vendor relationships
Maintain seed records including vendors, lots, dates, etc. for easy access (e.g., when customers need exact data)
Scout seed houses weekly and adjust production plan accordingly to proactively prevent reschedules whenever possible
Coordinate custom grow orders; strive to achieve 100% fulfillment and customer satisfaction
Post crops in nursery software system
Create new items in nursery software system
Responsible for making and communicating crop drops & watches
Coordinate all transplanted items for production line
Produce the weekly production schedule including Custom Grow items and seed schedule; review plan weekly for balancing and sales goal needs/changes
Work with seed vendors on all changes and adjust plan promptly to avoid customer delays; provide inventory with order rescheduling information when crops fail or are off schedule; walk production house losses for seed items weekly
Collaborate with Production team members to improve and enhance greenhouse operations work standards, procedures, and tasks to meet and/or exceed North Creek's standards; write and maintain work standards, ensuring communication of same
Prepare for and attend weekly Production Review meetings
Work with Production team on issues related to growing, stock, production, propagation, and quality control
Review and make recommendations to the production plan to make it more executable and profitable
Properly code all invoices with packing slips in a timely manner
Make and implement recommendations regarding improved operational systems and procedures with the General Manager's approval
Work with Production Manager to develop and manage the Production Department budget
Be cross trained in other areas of Production administration—custom grows for each type of crop (TC, URC, RC, BR, Plugs for Repot, Seed); payroll processing

Experience

Horticulture work experience beneficial but not required

Knowledge / Skills Required

Must be able to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing (including electronic communication)
Must have good computer skills—working knowledge of Excel and Word and able to use the Internet, Outlook and various electronic devices, with ability to learn customized computer software (production/crop management modules)
Ability to read labels and differentiate between plants
Ability to learn Latin plant names
Ability to do simple math calculations and conversions
Be an excellent communicator with effective listening skills, able to interface effectively with all employees, both hourly staff and management, as well as ability to organize thoughts well and express them in a clear manner that is well received
Must have good organization and time management skills
Knowledge and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), or willingness to learn
Ability to educate Production team to ensure a high level of plant quality is produced and handed off to growers
Continually improve the quality of plants produced
Continually decrease the level of shrinkage in crops
Improve overall crop quality and assist in achieving 100% fulfillment by finishing crops on time and maintaining quality until shipping date
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
