Calamagrostis brachytricha is a clump-forming grass with bright green leaves reaching about 2 feet. In late summer blooms emerge with a pink tint and reach 3 to 4 feet. The feathery flowers fade to cream in fall and finish in a straw color in winter. A graceful addition to the shade or part shade garden! One of the few flowering grasses that is happy in the shade. Wonderful for cut flowers.

Additional Information about Calamagrostis brachytricha

"This species of reed grass is a slowly-spreading, clump-forming grass which features a mound of narrow, stiff, green leaves (1/4 to 5/8" wide) typically growing to 2' tall and as wide. Pinkish tinged flower plumes appear in late summer atop stems rising well above the foliage clump to 4' tall. Plumes mature to a light tan as the seeds ripen, but tend to disintegrate by early winter. Foliage turns yellowish beige in fall. Also sometimes sold C. arundinacea var. brachytricha. Also sometimes commonly called foxtail grass, feather reed grass or Korean feather reed grass in reference to the feathery flower/seed plumes."-Missouri Botanical Garden

Growing & Maintenance Tips for Calamagrostis brachytricha

C. brachytricha is tolerant of a wide range of soils and growing conditions, including shade, but adequate moisture is necessary if grown in full sun. Propagate by seed or division of clumps every few years. Cut stems down to the ground in early spring before new growth occurs. Most effective as a specimen, in containers or perennial border.
