Aster 'Wood's Purple' has perfectly clean foliage, and is loaded with single, clear purple flowers in late summer and early fall. It is slightly earlier than 'Wood's Blue'. Bred for compact habit, long bloom period and heavy flowering, all of the Wood's Asters are outstanding pot crops and should be used far more often as a sturdy perennial alternative for mums.

Additional Information about Aster 'Wood's Purple'

To the best of our ability, we've tracked this group of remarkable selections back to nurseryman Edsel (Ed) Wood of Portland, Oregon. They were introduced by Lynn Caton. ‘Wood’s Purple’ is a compact aster similar in appearance to Aster novae-angliae but distinguished by its superior disease resistance. It forms a mounded clump, reaching 12-18 inches in height. From late summer to early fall, it produces an abundance of small, semi-double flowers in shades of blue-violet to purple, each with a bright yellow center. Its glossy, dark green foliage is highly resistant to disease.
