anise hyssop Interesting Notes

Agastache foeniculumis a showy and long blooming (up to 8 weeks!) perennial that is an absolute staple in mesic and xeric full sun plantings.

This taprooted prairie forb is found in northern North America, primarily the loamy soils of the Midwest and Great Plains.

Agastache foeniculum has been a dependable and beautiful element of our full sun trial gardens. We don't irrigate our gardens so this tough plant has survived summer droughts year after year. Its aromatic, anise scented leaves often leave it untouched by the deer and other critters that pass through. We love that this plant maintains itself year after year through non-agressiveself seeding.

The lavender purple blooms of Agastache foeniculum are pollinator magnets! The nectar and pollen supports a wide range of native bees, flies, and Lepidoptera.

Agastache foeniculum Growing and Maintenance Tips

Easily grown in average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade (though best in full sun). Good soil drainage is essential. Water well upon planting and regularly until established; plants tolerate dry soils once established. Deadhead spent flowers to promote additional bloom.
