Additional Information about Erigeron pulchellus var. pulchellus 'Pleasant Stream'
'Pleasant Stream' offers a fresh take on this dependable native favorite with a lush carpet of glossy, deep green foliage. Unlike the softly fuzzy leaves typical of the species, 'Pleasant Stream' features smoother, cleaner-looking foliage that forms a dense, low-growing groundcover. In spring, bright pink daisy-like flowers rise, creating a cheerful display that draws early-season pollinators!
Growing just a few inches tall with flowering stems reaching about 8-14", 'Pleasant Stream' is an easy-care perennial that thrives in everything from woodland gardens to naturalized plantings. It performs well in part shade but also adapts to full sun with adequate moisture, making it a versatile choice for edging pathways, filling spaces between larger perennials, or stabilizing gentle slopes.
This selection was originally given to us by Mr. David Bashnick, who discovered it growing along Pleasant Stream, a tributary of the Loyalsock River in central Pennsylvania, around 2006. When he returned to the site in 2024, two major rainstorms had significantly altered the valley and scoured the floodplain. The area where the plants were originally found no longer supported this selection.
'Pleasant Stream' is a knockout for those looking to combine durable groundcover with an extended season of attractive foliage! Its glossy leaves provide a refined look throughout the growing season, while its vibrant pink blooms offer an eye-catching splash of color in spring.
Growing & Maintenance Tips for Erigeron pulchellus var. pulchellus 'Pleasant Stream'
