Additional Information about Waldsteinia lobata
A low growing, herbaceous perennial that makes an excellent groundcover for moist, shaded areas. Reaching only 6-8" tall, it spreads by runners to form a dense carpet over time. Its evergreen foliage emerges fresh green and develops burgundy tones through winter. Small, yellow, petal-less flowers appear in early spring and are subtle but add an early-season touch of color.
Native to the southeastern United States, Waldsteinia lobata is found primarily in the Piedmont and Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. It naturally grows in shady, humid habitats including floodplain forests, terraces above mountain streams, and moist rocky slopes.
