Its tidy clumping habit makes it a perfect feature in a container, rock or stump, or in a border planting along a walkway.

Additional Information about Carex appalachica
Carex appalachica is a native sedge to the dry woods of eastern North America. Its fine texture and fountaining habit make it a lovely groundcover in dry shady sites, even in the root zone of trees. Appalachian sedge has a tidy clumping habit making it a perfect feature in a container, rock or stump, or in a border planting along a walkway.
Carex appalachica should be planted in well-drained soil in part or full shade. It is adaptable to a wide variety of soil types, but will not tolerate wetness. Running along the Appalachian Mountains, from South Carolina up to Canada, this sedge has 12”-18” blades that gently fall to about 6”, creating a graceful flow when planted en masse.
A wonderful substitute to the ever-popular Carex pensylvanica, it is rougher textured, forms in clumps, and tolerates drier conditions unlike its cousin. Very deer resistant, we trim it back to the ground in late winter to watch it re-flush a vibrant green in the spring in our woodland garden.
